I f lipped lights at an 8-series. He flipped them back . We may be at opposing ends of the price spectrum, but we’re still both cool.

Saw an AW-11 MR2! Like mine, but older. We exchanged thumbs since our lights were already on.

Got flipped off by someone in a Z3. I beeped her. She was doing 30 in a 60 zone.

Kinja'd!!!

Side note, I was excited to see a non-front-engined Mighty Car Mods challenge. Imagine how my joy turned to horror when they started whining about the MR2 and how they “don’t understand it”.

What’s not to understand? Mid-engined is good. Race cars did it, then Lamborghini did it. But not ‘til the MR2 had it been done for the people. Simple.

my favourite moment was Moog going ‘engine swap it’ and Marty shutting him down immediately.
Would have been neat for a decently documented video swap for the 2gr seeings as I now own a hail damaged MR2 and a hail damaged Aurion.

“ But not ‘til the MR2 had it been done for the people.”

Kinja'd!!!

The X1/9 was introduced in 1972, beating the MR2 and Fiero (both introduced in 1984) to market by over a decade. Rather then being the first “people’s” mid-engined sports car, the MR2 is like the Miata or NSX  of that segment: bringing Japanese build quality and dependability to a class of vehicle where unreliability was a given.

I hope that series won’t drive SW20 prices up. I would like one to put next to my AW11

I flipped my (F iero) lights at a NA Miata a few months ago at a stop light . Guy had the biggest smile after he flipped back.

Nice hardtop+turbo on the MR2. I watched that episode and they said they got it through 98 or 99.  In the US  I am pretty sure it stopped much earlier like 94 or 95 and the hardtop turbo combo was rare, maybe only a couple hundred in the last year.  Too lazy to wiki it.

I suppose you’re right. Nobody ever talks about these. Much like with the MR2 I suppose.

Eh, only in America. Also by all accounts these aren’t very good.

Yes, they were scared to compete with the Corvette, and yes, they got the formula right about 45 minutes before ending production. And yes with a few mods maybe you can make it passable. But the bottom line is that GM took a good idea and executed it poorly.

Totally. I think a lot of those cars stayed in production later than you’d think. The 300ZX, Supra and RX-7 were all built after 2000. But not for America, or Australia for that matter.

In Aus we only got the NA targas, so any other combination has to be imported. But it’s all legal and RHD baby, so no issue there. Mine is imported but that’s either because it’s a 1990 so wasn’t available here yet, or it was done illegally haha.

Seems not with the way they’re talking about them.

Though as an owner, I hope prices go past 1 million AUD.

True, the production run in 1984 was not what was the designers intended or wanted, (the 1988 WAS) bu t the fact that they were able to get this to production at ALL is amazing.

Also, with the exception of the 84 models, the Fiero is a pretty damn nice car - most of the “issues” are way overblown and perpetuated by misinformed “auto enthusiasts” that love to rag on it.

Also, Pontiac was not at ALL scared to compete with the Corvette, hence the real reason for it’s demise. Prototypes in the late 80's were outperforming the ‘V et te - at half the cost.

Always wanted a X1/9 - due to it’s similarity, it’s probably the reason I lusted after the Fiero. Once the 86 GT was released with the fastback body - I was hooked. But one never forgets their  first crush........ <3

Maybe Pontiac wasn’t scared, but Pontiac was GM and GM was scared. Potato potaahto.

Anyway we didn’t get them here. I saw one once. It was like being in The Matrix. I knew what it was from a distance, but wasn’t sure why and couldn’t understand how I was seeing it.

I still like them. Any mid-engined car for the people is cool. I just can’t shake the shame that it was bungled.
